Primeiro avistamento no Kruger

Entramos no Kruger pela Napi Road (H1-1) na tarde do dia 3/1/2011, em direção ao primeiro campo onde nos alojamos, Pretoriuskop, na parte sul do parque.

Mesmo antes de nos alojarmos, vimos os primeiros animais, um mangusto-anão (Helogale parvula), que não conseguimos fotografar (estes são animais muito rápidos), e um waterbuck macho (Kobus ellipsiprymnus), um grande antílope, que apesar de ser assim chamado (antílope d'água, mas em português, o nome vulgar dado a eles é inhacoso), não passa muito tempo na água. Eles usam a água, contudo, para escapar de predadores. Em meio à grama alta, seus belos chifres se sobressaem.

Foi incrível nem ter chegado ao primeiro campo e já estar vendo os primeiros animais!

We enter the Kruger through the Napi Road (H1-1) in the afternoon of 1/3/2011, toward the first camp where we stayed, Pretoriuskop, in the South part of the park.

Even before housing, we saw the first animals, a dwarf mongoose (Helogale parvula), which we did not manage to photograph (these are very fast animals), and a male waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus), a large antelope, which despite being so called (in Portuguese, its common name is inhacoso), does not spend much time in the water.  They use the water, however, to flee from predators. Amongst the high grass, his beautiful horns stand out.

It was unbelievable to see the first animals before ever getting to the first camp!
